The Second Coming becomes disruptive when we allow the memory of Jesus to be exalted without the imagery of Christ. By replacing Adam and Eve with Wallace and Darwin the grace required to empower ‘equality, liberty and justice for all’ gets its second wind. American justice goes the second mile by pulling the jet skis out from under papal authority. When the Holy See loses its ability to pimp ‘purgatory’ and ‘eternal damnation’ as needful vectors for ‘amazing grace,’ the hypocrisy from incongruity fostered by ignorance stamped holy begins to diminish.
