If we were able to agree that intellectualism derived from perjured truth qualifies as imperfect, and we replace Adam and Eve with Wallace and Darwin, we cannot think like an orthodox Jew or a Christian because everything wrought from fidelity to atonement doctrine is tainted with the fraud or pretense that we were born flawed. We were born mammals. Pretending that folk who dabble in the blood of goats and glorified lambs are the apple in God’s eye turns grace into the hypocrisy that impedes our efforts to build a more perfect union.”
