I haven’t studied Freud. Seems to me David might have been having one of those ‘slips.’ Being a child who was raised as a Christian or a Jew must have been horrifying. Imagine waking in the middle of the night to watch your parents being stoned to death* because elders know God doesn’t like anyone baking biscuits on the Sabbath. When morality is defined with conditional love, primarily because primitive fundamentalism clubs tribal elders with beliefs that slander the character of God, legalism abounds. If grace means “the parental relationship is supposed to be built upon unconditional love – a gift that cannot be bought or cannot be earned” and children are hammered with “the moral logic of Adam II,” the result may very well be “holes in the hearts of many children across society.”

Hitler was exposed to Catholicism’s twisted views of reality and turned his into a nightmare. Where did atonement doctrine 2.0 and it’s penchant for wrath come from?

Jews and Christians are warped by their dependence on the belief our species has a soul. The fear factor is exploited with imagery that makes fertile fiction into a lord of lords and king of kings, all the while camouflaging the imperfect intellectualism that perjures truth with the name of ‘God.’

When grace is viewed as unconditional, God is freed from association with hokum that fondles wrath, jealousy, purgatory, and eternal damnation. Jesus understood that orthodox Judaism’s dependence on atonement doctrine was nonsense. David cannot.
